My Daddy is in Kazakhstan

My Daddy just called to say he is stuck in Kazakhstan due to a delayed flight (few hours). Mummy says he is working there and will be home soon. I don't even know where Kazakhstan is. He is in the city of Almati. He says its an interesting place. The people look like they are of Asian descent (Chinese) but they speak Russian and there is a muslim element to the culture. The buildings are big and old and look like old Soviet era projects. I don't even know what soviet means. And where is China now that we are talking about it? I have soooo many questions. Daddy says he will answer them when he gets back.
